Kildangan 0-8 St Edwards 5-7

Summer finally arrived on friday evening in immaculately prepared More O'Ferrall Park as our U12s opened proceeding in a double header with our Senior team. As the saying goes "goals win games", this was very much the case here. St Edwards hit the ground running and goaled almost from the throw in with Kildangan failing to deal with a run through the middle. St Edwards added further points with Kildangan struggling to settle into the game. Full Forward Jake Curran settled Kildangan nerves with a nice point followed by another from midfielder Jack Fitzpatrick. Runs through the middle were a source of trouble for Kildangan all through the game with several fast running players for St Edwards the main difference between the sides. St Edwards added a further 4 points in the half to which Kildangan replied with points from Jack Fitzpatrick and Sean Casey. Just on half-time a second goal from St Edwards opened up a gap between the sides leaving the half-time score Kildangan 0-4 St Edwards 2-6.

Kildangan made some positional switches at half-time in an effort to curtail the St Edwards dangermen. This worked to an extent with St Edwards being restricted to a solitary point during the second half. Substitute Tommy Donaher kicked the opening two points of the second half which gave us hope. Two quick goals for St Edwards dashed our hopes though, however we continued to battle hard with sharp-shooter Josh O'Rourke finally getting free from a tight marker to kick a point. Jack Fitzpatrick kicked another fine point for Kildangan. A late goal for St Edwards sealed our fate. While we were disappointed to lose there were many positives to take from the game, the main one being we out scored our opponents on points during the game and out scored them on points 0-4 to 0-1 in the second half. Other players to give notable performances on the night for Kildangan were Senan O Tuama and Alice Mahon in defence and Niamh Gleeson and Sam Worrell further up the field. Training continues again tonight (monday) and again on friday evening.
